The company is not only sustainable, the approximately 80 employees also live a unique corporate philosophy, which is based without hierarchies, entirely on the personal responsibility of all. TELE is currently considering the question of where and how to work in the future. &#8220;Work anywhere&#8221; with home office and remote leadership already existed here before the pandemic. Only the production employees were not yet able to benefit from this concept and always had to be present. The pandemic-related restrictions and downtime, coupled with an increasing order backlog, had placed a particularly high demand on them. The desire was therefore to create a noticeable and long-term improvement in the work-life balance for employees in production.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>The initiative comes from the employees<\/h3>\n<p>Because everyone at TELE can initiate and implement projects, the production employees worked together to find ideas on how they could extend their weekends and create more scope for leisure and family activities. At the same time, the TELE sustainability project group is working on approaches to reduce the company&#8217;s internal carbon footprint. These two ideas gave rise to the concrete project &#8220;4-day week for production&#8221;.<br \/>An employee survey was carried out so that everyone concerned could contribute their opinion. The result: the new 4-day week was almost unanimously approved and will be implemented every 14 days in the future. In the weeks in between, production works with the normal working hours. This means that the employees regularly have long weekends and can plan well. After agreeing on the conditions under labor law, the trial operation was able to start within a very short time.<br \/>An evaluation after one month again showed almost unanimously that the employees are in favor of continuing the new 4-day week. Fortunately, the quality of production also remained high during this period. Monitoring is currently underway to document changes in productivity and changes in energy consumption.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-89738\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tele-online.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/TELE-Produktion-EMS0156-544x360.jpg\" alt=\"TELE-Produktion-EMS0156\" width=\"544\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tele-online.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/TELE-Produktion-EMS0156-544x360.jpg 544w, https:\/\/www.tele-online.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/TELE-Produktion-EMS0156-320x213.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 544px) 100vw, 544px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>4 days enables satisfaction and sustainability<\/h3>\n<p>The most important result is that the production employees are satisfied with their new 4-day week. In addition to the flexitime arrangement, this gives them greater flexibility to improve their work-life balance. Incidentally, the new model has not harmed the error rate at all. In fact, productivity has risen slightly. However, a longer observation period is still needed for meaningful and sustainable results.<br \/>Another exciting question was whether it makes a significant difference to sustainability to start up the machines on only 4 days a week. To date, no major differences can be recorded here. However, TELE is collecting more data in order to find further starting points for saving energy.<br \/>A significant improvement in the CO2 footprint can be seen in commuting. If employees only travel to work 4 days instead of 5, they save an extrapolated 5,600 kg of CO2 per year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Freedom for personal responsibility<\/h3>\n<p>The new 4-day week was developed without instructions or support from the TELE direction by the employees in production, who were all involved in the decision-making process. At the beginning, the human resources manager and HR had a say in labor law aspects. In addition, directly affected areas such as logistics, automation and development were involved in the project. Decisions were made as a team. At TELE, all employees not only have the right, but also the duty, to take responsibility themselves, to initiate projects and to drive their implementation.
