Local EMS service provider supports junior development team with know-how and production costs<\/h2>\n

The final year mechatronics class of the HTL Rennweg is on the home stretch towards the Matura. Not only theoretical knowledge is required, the students also have to prove their technical know-how in a practical project. Four students are developing an electronic door opening system. The special thing about this is that the team around Daniel Pfister is not only working intensively on a prototype, but has also secured a strong partner in TELE EMS for the production of six finished devices. “I did an internship at TELE last year and now simply asked if I could produce our project here. Not only did they say ‘yes’, but they are even covering the costs,” says a delighted project member Daniel Pfister.<\/p>\n

Smart door opening system<\/h3>\n

For their Matura project, the HTL students have set their sights on an exciting product for smart homes: an electronic door opening system that can open door locks via app or keep them locked. “Our system is intended to replace mechanical locking systems in single- and multi-family homes in the future and makes key management much easier,” Pfister is convinced. “For example, costs due to lost keys are eliminated and management for different people with different rights is simplified,” Pfister continues.<\/p>\n

With the system, access from the street to one’s own four walls takes place without a mechanical key, securely via a code, via NFC or via an app. The HTL students’ smart door opening system can be retrofitted easily and non-destructively to any conventional door. This simply involves replacing the handle with a rotary knob that contains the door opening system. “Security is very important here, so we control our module encrypted via Bluetooth,” explains Pfister. “It operates the door lock with a mechanical device to open the door. The system also works in the event of a power failure. TELE EMS supports students with know-how and resources<\/h3>\n

In Daniel Pfister’s HTL Matura team, two students are responsible for developing the software and one for the hardware. Daniel himself takes care of the electronics of the door opening system. In the first step, the team develops an opening module and three different authentication modules. To ensure that these boards can also be produced efficiently, TELE EMS supports the students with know-how for production transition and handles component purchasing. Expert knowledge is truly helpful here. “The microcontroller we had originally selected was no longer an option due to excessively long delivery times. With the help of TELE, we were able to exchange the component for a model that was available more quickly,” Pfister is pleased to report. In addition, TELE has the so-called production panel (= several individual circuit boards are arranged next to each other in the panel to form a large circuit board that is produced in a composite an depanelled later) created and manufactures the project for the students free of charge in-house.<\/p>\n

The development of the door opening system is now entering the hot phase, and production at TELE EMS is scheduled to start at the turn of the year. The team at the HTL will then present the finished devices at the Matura next April and hopes for good grades. We here at TELE are already giving out an award for great commitment.<\/p>\n
