Customers running a quick errand at a tobacconist’s, a grocer’s or a kiosk can now buy an ice-cold drink directly at the counter. The Austrian company Cuula GmbH is making sure of this with the world’s smallest can cooler. All components of the mini-refrigerator are manufactured by production partners in Europe. TELE Haase, as an electronic manufacturing service partner, produces the circuit boards for the mini-cooling system.<\/p>\n

Ice cold in 40 minutes<\/h3>\n

The Austrian innovation Cuula is a cooler, can dispenser and advertising ambassador in one. Especially practical: it is small, light, fast (cold cans from room temperature within 40 minutes) and additionally flexible advertising space. If desired, the device can light up, a battery variant is coming soon.<\/p>\n

Wherever there is little space, such as in small stores, at the kiosk or at events, cool drinks can be sold easily and quickly. \u2018In addition to the Balkans, Spain and Greece, our core markets are primarily Africa, the Arab countries and Southeast Asia\u2019, explains Maximilian Guth, CEO of the young company from Vienna.<\/p>\n

Mini can cooler with regional components<\/h3>\n

The idea for the Cuula was taken up by Kurt Hofer, owner of Klosterquell Hofer GmbH (Dreh und Drink). His team developed the first prototype in 2019. In 2021, Maximilian Guth took over the management and invested in the company. In the same year, Dr. Alexander Dabsch joined as CTO. From this point on, the Viennese were on the lookout for production partners for the total of more than 170 parts of their advertising refrigerator and began the series transition of the system. \u2018From the very beginning, it was important for us to manufacture a quality product with three quarters of the parts coming from Europe. All production partners had to be within a maximum of two to three hours’ drive\u2019, recalls Guth. The suppliers also had to be locally available. \u2018With the exception of three components that are only available in Asia, all components, such as sheet metal, injection molded parts, foam parts, of the Cuula system are from Europe\u2019, Guth continues. When it comes to the basic materials, the company pays attention to recyclability. Circuit board production at the Vienna site<\/h3>\n

Cuula GmbH chose TELE Haase for the series production of the device circuit boards. \u2018There are not many companies that are available locally and also take on small and medium-sized series. We chose TELE as a partner because here we have a qualitative contact at eye level who supports us in the series transition\u2019, explains Guth.<\/p>\n

TELE operates a modern electronics production facility in Vienna 23 and has established itself in recent years as a manufacturing partner for small and medium-sized companies with innovative products. After initial discussions, the Viennese EMS company immediately began the extremely difficult process of component procurement. The component market was particularly tight at the time, and delivery times of months had to be planned for some components. In addition, TELE supported Cuula GmbH in the industrialization of its product and collaborated on the development of the printed circuit boards. For example, the assembly speed was improved and the testing time was shortened. \u2018TELE’s support has helped us to significantly reduce unit costs and to be able to produce more cost-effectively in the long term\u2019, explains Guth.<\/p>\n

Competent partner for high quality<\/h3>\n

TELE produced the first batch for Cuula in series at the end of 2022. In addition to the complex component procurement, the EMS service provider handles the assembly, soldering, programming and testing of the PCB and delivers the finished series directly to Cuula. \u2018We are very satisfied with the production of our PCBs at TELE. The quality fits and that is essential for us, since every component of the Cuula has to fit exactly\u2019, Guth makes his claim clear. The cooperation with TELE-EMS is going very well and will be further expanded – the next 1,000 circuit boards have just been ordered. \u2018Our goal is to sell 20,000-25,000 units of our can cooler per year in the future\u2019, says Guth.
