TELE switching power supply units reduce energy consumption and heat development

Through the use of the coolZoom switching power supply unit technology, TELE reduces the energy consumption and thus the heat development of its GAMMA series of monitoring relays by more than half. This not only saves electricity in the supply of the relays but also reduces the dissipation loss at the same time and thus the waste heat. On the one hand, lower operating temperatures have a positive effect on the lifetime and reliability of the components. On the other hand, the switching cabinet air conditioning and ventilation can thus be reduced, resulting in a further reduction in the operating costs. However, coolZoom is not only energy-efficient; it is also extremely flexible with regard to input voltage and frequency. The switching power supply unit works with supply voltages of between 24 and 240 volts AC/DC and in a frequency range of between 16.6 and 400 hertz.

Monitoring components mounted in a switching cabinet often result in total in a considerable heat development that has a negative impact on the lifetime of the overall control unit and pushes up operating costs. Energy, however, is expensive and should not be wasted. Consequently, monitoring relays also need to offer primarily flexible and energy-saving solutions in the area of the switching power supply unit.
With the new coolZoom switching power supply unit technology from TELE, monitoring relays of the GAMMA series stay cool. Up to now, a monitoring relay used an average of 2 watts input voltage. With coolZoom, the typical power consumption is now below the 1-watt mark. It has thus been possible to reduce the energy consumption by more than half.
Devices with coolZoom voltage supply are also ideal for use in battery-backed systems. The reduced power consumption results in an extended lifetime of the battery. In addition, the battery can be smaller overall, thus saving space and weight.

Flexible use
The flexibility of coolZoom has also been decisively improved. The new switching power supply unit can be operated with any supply voltage between 24 and 240 volts AC/DC and has generous tolerance ranges of between 20.4 and 264 volts AC or between 19.2 and 300 volts DC. For voltages of between 24 and 240 volts AC/DC, the devices work reliably with galvanic isolation. And thus reliably bridge both fluctuations in the mains supply and excess voltages of up to 260 volts AC. Problems with battery-backed applications with almost an empty rechargeable battery or increased charge end voltages are thus a thing of the past.
Devices with coolZoom voltage supply can be used in the frequency range of 16.6 to 400 Hertz and are suitable for various applications, such as e.g. isolated networks, emergency power supply systems, decentralised and alternative energy supply systems, wind power systems, on-board networks and 16.6 Hertz railway networks. One single automation component for several applications simplifies not only the warehousing but also the maintenance. Irrespective of whether the device is connected to the mains voltage or supplied with 24 volts, the service technician always has the right device at hand.
